Shane Saum for Mayor of Lago Vista Platform

Focused Leadership. Practical Solutions. Local Results.

1. Focusing on Needs Over Wants

Your local tax cdollars are not a genie bottle to fund every new idea that comes along. Lago Vista has essential needs that must come before wants.

My top priority as Mayor will be to improve the services the City is already supposed to provide — water, roads, permits, and public safety.

For too long, changes in city management have caused projects and basic services to stall. We need permanent, institutional systems that keep the City running efficiently regardless of who works at City Hall. Reliable service shouldn’t depend on who’s in the chair that day.

2. Securing Outside Funding for Water and Wastewater Projects

We are close to receiving major state funding for Lago Vista’s wastewater expansion — but we can’t stop there. As Mayor, I’ll continue pursuing every available state and federal opportunity to fund our infrastructure needs.

Citizens already pay those taxes to Austin and Washington. It’s time to bring those dollars back home to Lago Vista.

At the same time, we’ll ensure consultants are held accountable and not proposing oversized, unnecessary projects that burden taxpayers.

3. Strengthening Our Local Economy

A strong community depends on a strong local economy. I’ll continue to support our small businesses, encourage responsible tourism, and attract new visitors and investment that generate local sales tax dollars — without raising property taxes.

Our goal should be to help existing businesses thrive, make it easier to open new ones, and ensure Lago Vista remains a place where entrepreneurs can succeed.

4. Improving Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Response

The July 4th flood was a wake-up call. As Mayor, I will lead efforts to ensure Lago Vista learns from that experience and becomes a model of preparedness.

Fire and flood are top concerns for our citizens. We will strengthen coordination between the City, first responders, and local volunteers; improve communication plans; and make sure everyone knows their role when emergencies strike.

Preparedness saves lives — and builds trust.

5. Increasing Efficiency and Homeowner Relief

Every tax dollar must be respected. I will continue working to make our city government more efficient and accountable — and I’ll push to enact a local homestead exemption as allowed by state law to give Lago Vista homeowners the relief they deserve.

My approach to city budgeting is simple: do more with less, prioritize essential services, and reward departments that find savings and operate efficiently.

6. Representing Lago Vista Beyond City Limits

Lago Vista deserves a strong voice at every level of government. Whether it’s at Travis County, the Texas Legislature, or in Congress, I will continue to represent our community’s interests and ensure we’re not overlooked when funding or policy decisions are made.

That includes fighting for continued water access, advocating for local control, and building partnerships that benefit Lago Vista’s long-term growth and infrastructure.

The Bottom Line

I believe in a city government that:

Puts citizens first

Uses tax dollars wisely

Focuses on results over rhetoric

Builds a stronger, safer, and more efficient Lago Vista

Together, we can make sure Lago Vista’s best days are ahead — not behind.
